Rynox7 2.0

So its been a long time sense my last post. life as it always does moves on and there is much to take the time to lay down in the written word. For now I just continue on with this little gem.

Behold Rynox7 2.0!

Now for those that are going what the difference? I'll tell you...

Rynox7 now is equipped with a Nvidia 9800GTX 512 ver.2 video card and a XION 800 watt modular power supply. A friend of mine bought the card under my recommendation for his home theater PC. Long story short his case was to small for the card and he was going to be stuck paying a restock fee, (BOO NEWEGG! Honestly people www.tigerdirect.com Way better service and much better prices) so I manned up and offered to buy the card (with the wifes approval). When I got it home, being the amazing tech that I am, made sure that it would work in my system. I knew the case was going to be fine, (look in that thing the case is HUGE!) but I was concerned about the power. My little 500W simply was not going to be enough. Thus the new supply. So since this system was becomeing my little experement into case modding, (more on that later) I wanted to get a supply that would

A. Provide enough power while still being efficient.
B. Looked nice.
C. Allowed for advanced cable management techniques that would provide better airflow.

Look at the pics and you would see that I think I fould the ALMOST perfect one.

800 watts of power while being a member of the power supply 80 bronze club. That means that at least 80% of the power coming into the supply is actually converted into power for the system. Only 20% is wasted in the conversion from AC to DC power. Not many know this but the average power supply in a home PC is only 30% to 50% efficient. Think about that when you get your power bill.

Looked nice. um... It's a tech thing really but compaired to a grey steel box... much better.

Advanced cable management.
It's modular. Rather then have all the cables that I dont use bound up and hidden away, I only use the ones I need. As you can see I only used half of the cables. Now the motherboard cables are still hard wired. Honestly I'm ok with that, they just needed to be a bit longer (this is the part that made it almost perfect). This supply has the standard 4pin mobo cable as well as the newer 8pin one. The 8 pin was just hidden in the back. One cable to run the video card. One cable to run all the drives. One cable to run all the fans. All the cables are tied up and out of the way for good air flow.

Mission accomplished.

In the future rynox7 2.1 will get its post. Some case modding to show. See ya then.

Rynox7 LIVES!!!!!!

So the tax man was kind to me this year. I was able to get caught up on all my oustanding debts that I owed some people and so the wife demanded that I get something for myself. Her reasoning is that she can never get me to do it any other time of the year so now would be the only time we had the money to do so. I told her that i really wanted a new PC as the last one I built was going on 4 and half years old now. It was not having issues or like and in fact is a quite a good system for its time. However its time had come. I present to you Rynox7.

Ok so time to turn tech on you.
AMD Phenom 2 920 quad core 2.8ghz CPU
4gb Corsair Dominator 1066 ram
Asus M378A-T Motherboard 790GX NB and 750 SB
XFX 8800gt OC 512mb
Thermaltake truepower 500 watt power suppy
Westerndigital sata 2 250g 7200rpm drive
Liteon SATA lightscribe DVD burner
Coolermaster CM690 midtower case

Yes the Vidcard is dusty. I cleaned it later. I'm running Win XP and Windows 7 beta 7000 build. I have to say, Windows 7 is very nice. It is totally my main OS at the moment. We shall see what Microsoft does, but they could release this beta now and the market would gobble it up.

Anyway the system is a dream, after some beginning issues getting the ram to run at the right speed and configuring how the ram functions (ganged vs unganged mode look it up lots of info on what they do but little on how to actually set it...), it runs like a dream. I was playing WoW, running Itunes, had vent up, Yahoo chat too, firefox all churning away and not one of them flinched. Even WoW was turning in some very nice frame rates in Dalaran where all the cool peeps hang out. On my old system I could have been doing this, but it would be choking somewhere. Now, it seems that the new system is begging for more.

I am very pleased with how this came together and I'm sure that for long times to come this system will get teched and messed with for a long time. If anyone out there in the void has any questions or comments feel free. Pc hardware is a small passion of mine and I love talking shop with anyone that will listen...

The cry of a waring heart.

I have never known strife and war.
I have never tasted the Fear of battle.
I have never looked in the eyes of a dyeing man.

I have seen death griping the bodies of warriors.
I have seen mothers wailing for their stolen young.
I have seen blood flowing as rivers down city streets.

Why oh God does my heart yearn for something that I have never known,
when my eyes have seen the horrors that would result?

Why father does the lifeless eyes of the of the children fail to shame
my heart into submission?

Why do the tears of the heartbroken not soften my lust for the glories of battle?

Why Father do you tarry even now?
Why do the children pay for the sins their long dead forefathers?
Why must we wait for your justice to be metered out?

Please my father, give wisdom to your servant.
He desires to understand your ways.
He longs to know the depths of your heart.

Keep him from the wrath of his heart.
Do not allow him to be tainted by the very evil he would seek to destroy.
Allow the peace that flows from your being to pervade him.

Gaza 2009
In any war there are those that are innocent. The children pay the price for the evils of men that are killing because of an ancient family feud, Or because their God demands them to. How much blood must be spilled before men will do as God demands and let him punish the evils of this world? How many mothers will have to wail and morn before we stop. How many fathers will have to bear their sons into the cold earth before the wrath of the human heart is subdued. What will it take to make us see the horrors and evils of our dark and hardened hearts? I don't know why God allows this evil to go on, but I do know that when the time comes, his wrath will be perfect and his justice will be swift. Please father let it be soon.

Random thought...

Time goes where it always does: into the past like grains of sand slowly blowing away, with only our memories to remind us of moments, commonplace then, but precious in retrospect.

The above was my response to my wife telling me that our son was feeding himself scrambled eggs and drinking out of his sippy cup all by himself. No need for her to do anything but give more food if requested. She commented that he seemed so big now and she asked "where does the time go?"

Every moment of our lives little things go by. Some good some bad, but always what was meant for you. Enjoy your life. If more people took the time to stop slow down and savor each moment that passes into the maw of the past, there would not be time for all the ugliness and pain that they run so hard from...

Now for a taste of things to come

My Boy turns 1 today.

One year.
Where did the time go?
Is this going to be what its like when...
I seem him drive alone for the first time?
tells me about this girl...
heads off to college... or the military...
calls me to tell me that his wife is pregnant...

where does the time go?
why are there so many good and wonderful memories that seem a ripple in the river of time...

why cant I slow it down and savor each one...

The Mating call of the Wailing Yeti.

The first post. What will define this blog to its readers for as long as it exists. I think it best to explain why I chose the name that I did. I used to blog on the myspace account for a good long time, until my job blocked it off. So when I decided to try my hand at it again I came here. I was first asked to pick a name. The following jumped into my mind and the name Wailing yeti was not taken so, that was that. Below are 2 posts to myspace and thus the name.

The mating call of the wailing yeti.
Current mood: dirty
Category: Blogging

Well yet another working Friday has come to a close. It was a good day, got what need doing. No major issues and no ID-10-T errors from my users. I love computer stuff, as you can tell, but there are times when stuff about them can be so… annoying. For instance anyone of us IT geeks will tell you that if you go to fix one thing you WILL find other issues to address. For instance, one of my users CD-ROM drives stopped working. Turns out the drive mechanism for the tray broke. I told her to stop using it as a cup holder and said that I’ll go grab a spare and replace it right quick. Mind you she had to get a file off the CD and get it mailed off by the end of the day. No problem I thought. This will be quick I thought. A drive swap is so easy it took less then 5 minutes. (yes it really is this easy. The money you pay the Geek Squad for repair work is outrageous.) Well I power the thing back up, all is well, close it up, and begin to walk away. I was free, it was done, piece of cake and I looked like the hero.

Then I heard that sound.

The sound that makes every IT geek in the world cringe. The mating call of the wailing yeti.

With out getting techie on you and if you have not heard it for yourself I will describe. Imagine fingernails on a chalkboard in a circular motion at 2000 RPM. Ears bleeding yet? Good. The cause is almost always a fan in the case is old and needs cleaning and or lubing. No biggie right? WRONG. How many of your dust your living spaces? Why do you do that? Keep that in mind. How many of you clean out your computers as frequently as you dust your living space? Yeah, thought so. Little known fact, majority of "dust" is actually cast off skin from the living things that reside in the living space. Now imagine a work environment where the same person day in and day out is working next to that case. You usually find it down on the floor "cause it takes up so much space". Now imagine that I have to clean all that out in order to stop the mating call. Let’s just say that no matter the precautions you take, you always get "close" with a user of a PC whenever you clean one of them.

Oh well it comes with the job and in the end I really do love it. I just need to find my sinus meds and go OD on them.

The Yeti strikes back
Current mood: dorky
Category: Web, HTML, Tech

I don't believe this.

Yet again I have heard the mating call of the wailing yeti. From the same Pc no less. Talk about single minded. The funny thing is when my user called me I could hear it over the phone it was so loud. The second I walked in the room it stopped. IT actually tried to hide from me. Like it could go any where. I mean come on it’s a PC you can't move... yet.

So I open the thing and sure enough all is good from the looks of things. My Tech Geek senses are tingling. I begin to prod and poke around. Manually stopping the fan I know is causing the issue. I let it spin back up... nothing. Everything is going just like it should be. I suddenly feel much like those auto guys that says nothing is wrong and then 2 feet of the lot your car blows up. I'm better then that. I will fix this.

Now this is the part where every tech geek will say well duh. I then decide to test the fan again. Instead of using a screwdriver to get the fan to stop, I use my finger. The center point of the hub of blades is made of plastic and only rotating at about 2000 RPMs. I have done this so many times with no negative impact. I reach my finger in there and... I missed. My finger hits one of the plastic blades and i fell a slight odd sensation that I am not used to feeling. No red stuff but I bet that it will be sore for a while.

The fan then begins it wail. The stupid thing bit me. It actually laid in wait and bit me. At this point it was on. I took the little upstart and did a full clean and lube job. It is now totally silent. I hope it learned its lesson.
